JED 2022 - RENNES !

On June 2, 2022, the University of Rennes 1 hosted the 3M Doctoral School Day (Matter, Molecules and Materials). The theme of this edition was "Transformations, movements and interactions: towards the dynamics of matter". A plenary lecture was given by Pr. Eric Collet (IPR, Rennes) on “Ultra-rapid transformation of matter”.

Just over 200 participants from all 3M Doctoral School sites were able to discuss their thesis work through 36 oral communications, 54 posters and 6 flash communications. A round table on the professional integration of doctoral students, led by Sylvain Collonge, allowed a constructive exchange between professionals and students on the post-thesis.

The organizing committee would like to thank the donors who made this day possible: the 3M Doctoral School, the Rennes 1 Foundation, the French Chemical Society (FCS), French Physical Society (FPS) and the Fonds of Solidarity and Development of Student Initiatives (FSDSI Rennes 1), as well as all the participants present during this day, both doctoral students and non-doctoral students.

Finally, we would like to congratulate all the doctoral students who have made a contribution and more particularly the winners:

  • Prize for the best oral communications:

1st Solène Perot (IPR, Rennes)
2nd tied Soussana Azar (Moltech Anjou, Angers) and Akshitha Selvaraj (ISCR, Rennes).

  • Prizes for the best posters:

Yoann Raffray (IPR, Rennes),
Jennifer Bou Zeid (Moltech Anjou, Angers)
Matthieu Kermarrec (IRDL, Brest)

  • Flash communication price:

Camille Le Serrec (ENSCR, Rennes)

JED 2020 - Le Mans - Virtual!

In 2020, Le Mans was to host the 5th bi-regional edition of the 3M Doctoral School day on Monday, May 12, 2020.

Due to the unprecedented health crisis this year, and in order to maintain more than ever the link between doctoral students from all sites, it was decided to maintain the JED by modifying its form!

On this occasion, a competition was launched so that everyone has the opportunity to present their work, in the form of a video capsule, combining popularization and cutting-edge scientific content.

A voting system has been put in place to reward the video most appreciated by doctoral students and supervisors.

In addition, a jury composed of directors and site directors of the ED and doctoral students elected to the council, will also reward 2 participants.
After a month of viewing the excellent videos submitted by our 28 candidates, the jury and the public have chosen our 3 winners.
A big thank you to all of you for your participation, the public votes were very tight!
Without further ado, here are the results:

Public Prize:
Julio César ESPINOSA ANGELES - University of Nantes - Video n ° 4

Jury Prize: ex-aequo
  Ophélie MONTIEGE - Le Mans University - Video n ° 16
Andreas LUDWIG - University of Rennes - Video n ° 9

Well done to all three of them, and also to the 25 other participants, for the high quality of their work and their involvement.
The videos can always be viewed at the following address:

(only videos with authors authorisation can be watched)

The Doctoriales® also act as windows into research and innovation developed for all socio-economic players. These special gatherings allow PhD students to meet representatives of various socio-economic sectors.

"My Thesis in 180 seconds"

Ma thèse en 180 secondes (“My Thesis in 180 Seconds”) is a competition allowing PhD students to present their research subject simply and in French to the general public. Each participant has 3 minutes max to clearly, concisely and convincingly present his/her research project – all with the help of a single slide.

Sciences en Cour[t]s

Sciences en Cour[t]s is a short-film festival that offers PhD students the unique opportunity to shoot short films on their thesis work.
The goal is to answer – in an entertaining yet educational manner – questions often asked by the public, notably:

  • What’s the use of a thesis?
  • What do PhD students do?
  • How does one's scientific approach take shape?
  • What research themes are explored at the university? …

The only imperative is to render the science easily understandable and accessible, via short, dynamic and fun films no matter the field of study (within the social and experimental sciences).

"PhDs & Companies" Forum

The Forum Docteurs & Entreprises is organized every two years by Brittany’s young researcher associations (Dakodoc for Brest and Nicomaque for Rennes). This event brings together Breton academia and Brittany-based companies, with future doctorate holders lent centre stage.
